Charlie
first met Mike Tyson when he worked along side him on a Television
show for sky. He suggested to Mike that a wider audience would be
very interested in his life story and suggested he contact Ray Fisher
of Ray Fisher Promotions in the view of a tour of the U.K, speaking
on the after dinner circuit.
In
November of 2005 this came about, and Mike Tyson arrived in the
U.K accompanied by his personal manager Tom Patti and also one of
his former sparing partners Joe Egan.
The
tour was arranged through the friendship of Charlie and Joe Egan
and promoted by Ray Fisher.
The
tour coincided with the release of Joe Egan’s autobiography,
of which Mike Tyson wrote a forward. The book entitled big Joe Egan
credits Charlie and boxing promoter Ken Purchase as the two people
who inspired him to write his autobiography. It is currently a best
seller published by Pennant Publications.
Joe
and Cass Pennant asked Charlie to arrange a press conference at
Canary Wharf for Joe Egan book signing session. Mike Tyson was the
guest of honour and the event was a huge success. It attracted over
five thousand boxing fans along with every TV station, and newspaper
represented in the U.K.
The
venues for the Mike Tyson tour were the London Hilton, the Birmingham
Hilton, Manchester united FC, The Pennine Hotel Derby, and the Doncaster
Dome. Charlie was the master of ceremonies at each one and Frank
Bruno was the main guest speaker at all the venues. The event was
the biggest
the after dinner circuitry had seen since the PELE three day tour
some years ago, Mike Tyson broke all box office records for a UK
dinner tour.
So
successful was the whole event, that already negotiations are under
way for a second tour once again with Charlie at the helm.
For
all you boxing fans out there keep an eye open for the Evander Holyfeild
tour early 2006, with once again Charlie Hale being your ringside
master of ceremonies.
